In early 1859, three men established a new iron foundry in Newton Pennsylvania, which is today a part of Newville. Located at the southwest edge of town next to the Cumberland Valley Railroad was the new “Foundry and Machine Business.” The goal of the new foundry was to make farming, industrial, and domestic tools out of cast iron, and to make repairs to existing equipment.
