Welcome to the Newville Historical Society of the Big Spring Area
Our Motto. "Moving forward looking back"
Proudly serving the Big Spring community for over 50 years, the Newville Historical Society invites you to explore our rich and colorful heritage. Come visit our museum, attend a lecture or search for your family roots in our research library! Walk around our famous town and explore its early Victorian homes, many with a history of colorful inhabitants. Discovered in 1733, we can transport you back to that time and bring you forward with our volunteers immersing you in local history. A must do when in the area. Or visit our catalogs of early family history and possibly see their bible legacies or a part of the museum dedicated to them. We are a small Historical Society with a huge impact on the area!
SAVE THE BRIDGE!
Our double hump Big Spring Turnpike Bridge is in danger of being torn down. This historic stone bridge has been around since 1872. If you want to be on the team to save this bridge, please reach out to us.
HELP WANTED!
We are in desperate need of a curator for our little slice of heaven in the Newville area. If you have what it takes to be part of the team and to assist in organize our collections, please let us know.
Join us as we preserve Newville's history!
This month we are crossing our fingers in hopes of securing a grant to control the humidity within our little house and preserve our collections.
Plans are underway for another Historic Motorcycle Ride. We are teaming up again with our local Legion Riders to give the best tour possible. More to come on this adventure.
We are hoping to team up with Mathew March from the Cumberland County Historical Society to present the history of Green Ridge Village.
These are just 3 of the many things we have coming up in 2024. Stay tuned or get involved. You can reach out and we will respond.
